Did you know that . . .
23 May 2008

There has been a church at Highclere since before 1086! The original church was next to the present Highclere Castle, and a "new" church was built on the same foundations in 1689. Our present church of St Michael and All Angels was built in 1870 on a new site "more accessible to villagers", as a gift to the community from the then Earl of Carnarvon. In the church is a scroll showing the names of the patrons and Rectors of Highclere over the last 1,000 years. There are also many memorials from the earlier churches. The picture shows the Altar of the present church.

Come and join us in continuing the spirit of worship and fellowship that has been a central feature of Highclere life for a thousand years! There are services at 8.00 am and 11.00 am most Sundays - see the Church pages for details.
