There has been a church at Highclere since before 1086! The original church was next to the present Highclere Castle, and a "new" church was built on the same foundations in 1689. Our present church of St Michael and All Angels was built in 1870 on a new site "more accessible to villagers", as a gift to the community from the then Earl of Carnarvon. In the church is a scroll showing the names of the patrons and Rectors of Highclere over the last 1,000 years. There are also many memorials from the earlier churches.
