	Highclere Farm Bed and Breakfast Situated in a designated area of Outstanding Beauty, and close to Highclere Castle, Newbury Racecourse, the recently converted coachhouse makes an extremely comfortable B&B with en suite facilities. 	The Carnarvon Arms Our Grade II listed building was built in the 1800s as a coaching inn providing a stop off for travellers to nearby Highclere Castle, home to the present Lord and Lady Carnarvon. It is now beautifully renovated offering a stunning dining room with a high vaulted ceiling, a thriving friendly bar, 23 stylish bedrooms and private meeting room facilities. The Carnarvon Arms is also located less than a mile from Sandham Memorial, as well as being close to Newbury town centre. 	East Woodhay Twinning Association The aim of the Association is to establish friendly links between ourselves and our “twinned” villages in Normandy, France, and to encourage contacts between the regions in order to promote a better understanding of each other’s customs. It’s a great opportunity to get a genuine flavour of France, not forgetting the good wines! Once every two years members travel to Normandy to stay with families in four villages near to Caen for a Bank holiday weekend. On the intervening years our French friends come to stay in East Woodhay. Accommodation and travel is arranged by the Association together with a full itinerary of outings and social events for both hosts and visitors so no one feels isolated or worried about the language, (although most families speak English), and a great time is had by all for very little cost.

	St Martin's East Woodhay Infants and Junior School St. Martin’s Church of England Primary School. St. Martin’s School, with approximately 108 children on role, is in the lovely setting of East End village, just outside Woolton Hill. It is a Church school with a strong Christian ethos and it has strong links with the church of St. Martin’s nearby. The last SIAS (Church School) Inspection, July 2010, found that: ‘The school demonstrates a caring supportive, community and pupils commented on the family atmosphere. Parents express their appreciation of the sensitive way the school promotes Christian values.’ ‘Children talk confidently about their learning in school and value all aspects of school life.’ The last Ofsted Inspection (May 2010) found that: ‘Teaching is consistently of good quality with all classrooms having a calm and purposeful atmosphere where pupils enjoy learning, behave exceptionally well and relish the many opportunities that teachers provide for them. Pupils are cared for and supported well. By the time the children leave the school their attainment is significantly above average. Pupils’ personal development is good. They respond well to the calm and supportive atmosphere generated by the adults and by the end of Year 6, they have developed into mature and well rounded young people with good social skills. This helps them to be well prepared for their move to Secondary School.’
	St Thomas' Infants School, Woolton Hill 135 pupils enrolled.The most recent OFSTED report at Hantsweb (2009), St Thomas’ CE Infant is an outstanding school. One parent summed up the views of almost all by saying, ‘Excellent leadership of the school and handling of situations. Staff and headteacher know children very well. Overall an excellent school and very well run. Cannot fault anything.’ The highly effective staff team, led by the outstanding headteacher, is responsible for the school’s consistent success in providing high quality education. For the last five years, national test results for pupils in Year 2 show them to be achieving outstandingly well. Attainment is significantly above average and, in 2009, the proportion of pupils who reached the expected levels in reading, writing and mathematics was very high, as was the number achieving the higher levels. Behind the impressive results are high quality teaching and the outstanding care and guidance that enable pupils of all abilities and backgrounds to make substantial gains in their learning.
	The Clere School, Burghclere Note: although the postal address is in West Berks the school is geographically and administratively in Hampshire and is the local secondary school for our villages. The number of students enrolled in 1999-2000 was 538. The most recent OFSTED report at Hantsweb (for 15 March 1996) reported that "This is a friendly school with a supportive ethos that is highly regarded in the community. A full curriculum is maintained, despite its small size, and there is a commitment from the headteacher and governors to achieve excellence in all that the school offers."
