The first meeting of the Highclere Parish Council was held on Friday
14th December 1894
The first five councillors were:
- Charles Bowsher of Highclere Street, Farm Carter
- George Bennett Collier of Falkland Farm, Farmer
- James Ireland of Andover Road, Shoemaker
- William Wallis of Sidown Warren, Farmer, and
- William Crocker of Andover Road
Mr Collier Knapp had originally been elected, but at the first meeting he was disqualified from serving as a councillor because he was "Rate collector and assistant overseer". He was however elected as Clerk to the council at a salary of £2 per year. Mr J A Rutherford was elected treasurer to the council.
There are still just five councillors today!
