Highclere Parish Council:

Members of the First Council - 1894

The first meeting of the Highclere Parish Council was held on Friday 14th December 1894

The first five councillors were:

Mr Collier Knapp had originally been elected, but at the first meeting he was disqualified from serving as a councillor because he was "Rate collector and assistant overseer". He was however elected as Clerk to the council at a salary of £2 per year. Mr J A Rutherford was elected treasurer to the council.

There are still just five councillors today!
