Local History Database

To ensure that recent as well as older memories of the changing face of Highclere and of local life are preserved we are building a database of photographs, documents and other records. If you have any photographs or documents relating to the area please allow us to scan them and extend the database. They will be returned safely to you after being scanned on to the computer.

If you think you may be able to help in any way please contact Ron Snipp tel: +44 (0) 1635 254026.

The Highclere Society and the Parish Council  received a grant of almost £10,000 to set this project up.The award was from the National Local Heritage Initiative Scheme Grant. This  helped to pay the costs of archiving documents collected by the local History Group and photographs required by the Parish Council for the Tree and Hedgerow Survey.

We are still collecting, scanning and promptly returning photographs and documents illustrating the History of the Village. The grant has enabled us to archive these documents for future generations to enjoy. This includes details about old barns and wells in the Parish. Please contact Ron Snipp  if you have anything we can add to our  growing collection.
